Pricing Guidelines Print

This guide is going to give you tips and ideas for pricing items so that you are putting money in your pocket and not taking your items back home.  You are certainly welcome to price your items as you see best for you, but here are a few things to keep in mind when considering your pricing:

  1. The type of people who shop at consignment sales - people who do not want to pay full price for clothes or people who cannot afford to purchase new clothes.
  2. There are only a certain number of people who will even be interested in your particular item and if your item is not priced right, then you will be taking it back home with you.
  3. When selecting the price for the item, think of the very least you would consider taking for it and that should be your price. If you can’t take half that amount, then do put an “X” in the top right corner.  Do not let the half price issue affect your regular selling price because it simply makes the regular selling price too high.  It is a good idea to save the “X” (full price only) for those items that are out of season ( a winter coat at the spring sale – you could try again in the fall).
  4. Consider this a good opportunity to clean out closets and kids rooms.  Do not let your time and energy go to waste by not selling everything you put in the sale.  Price it to sell!!!
  5. If someone comes to the sale and gets lots of bargains, they are probably going to tell their friends.  The success of the sale depends on a good turnout of shoppers.  If we give them the bargains that they want, then they will come back the next year.

 * Items must be priced at $1 or above, in half-dollar increments ($1.50, $2.00, $2.50). Lower priced items should be grouped together and sold as one item.

Don’t forget to volunteer:  Make 70% of your proceeds instead of 60% and get VIP Privileges Friday night 5-5:45pm (work 3 shifts, one must be a Saturday shift).  Then you can stay and shop the Pre-Sale from 6-8pm as well (this is only for people who work 1 or 2 shifts,  or are 1st time moms expecting their 1st child).
